Errors prove costly for Demons in 6-0 loss to Montrose

Glenwood Springs just couldn’t get the bats going in Saturday’s 4A District 6 baseball tournament opener at Montrose.

Tyrus Lopez’s no-hitter lifted Montrose to a 6-0 win over the Demons.

Robert Reynolds turned in an effective pitching outing for Glenwood, which wrapped it season with a 10-10 overall record. He went the distance, striking out four and surrendering no earned runs.

“We just made too many mistakes,” Glenwood Springs coach Eric Nieslanik said. “Robert threw a solid game.”

Making the playoffs was an impressive feat for Nieslanik’s squad, which lost six of its first seven games in 2012. The Demons rallied down the stretch, playing well in 4A Western Slope League action to secure a berth.

Saturday just wasn’t the Demons’ day.

“The big thing is we just committed seven or eight errors,” Nieslanik said. “And we just couldn’t hit anything.”
