Eva Mae Melby

Beloved wife and mother Eva Melby passed away Sept. 23, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs following a brief illness. Her family was by her side when she passed – she was 73 years old.Eva was born Dec. 20, 1937 in Sutherland, Nebraska to parents Arthur William Wilson and Zola Vee Adkins. She was raised in Ogallala, Nebraska and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1955. She attended Scottsbluff Nursing College. She worked as a legal secretary in Denver, when she met her husband Kenneth Leslie Melby. They were married at the Lutheran Church in Denver, Colo. on April 1, 1961. They raised four children. They moved to Glenwood Springs in 1967 where they resided 44 years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family reunion on July 4, 2011 in Sterling, Colo.Eva was a devoted homemaker first and foremost and delighted in her family.Her unselfishness, wisdom, quit wit and humorous disposition were assets matched by few. Family gatherings with food, games and smart conversation were highlights over the years. She was a voracious reader, a Hospital Auxiliary member and past president, belonged to a bridge club for 40 years, and joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1967.She received a BS in Criminal Justice from Mesa State College, graduating with honors.Eva leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Kenneth L. Melby, their children Bradley D Klas, his children Collin (Autumn) Klas, Kendalyn (Joe) Mendonca, great-grandchild Zephaniah Mendonca, Danica Klas all of Milwaukie, OR; Stephanie (Marc) Irwin, their children Ashley (Ryan) Franklin, great-grandchildren, Evie and Nolan Franklin of Austin, TX, David and Marc Irwin of Canyon, TX; Kenneth L. Melby II (Carrie), their children, Kenneth L. Melby III of Golden, Colo., Caitlin Melby of Ft. Collins, Chandler of Glenwood Springs; Kristopher L. Melby (Kerrie) and their children, Aerica and Thorin Melby all of Glenwood Springs.Also surviving are her sisters Gayle Gregory, Joyce Morrell, Lela County and brothers David Henry Wilson and Delmar Arthur Wilson.Preceding her in death are her parents Arthur and Zola Wilson, and her sister Gloria Ruth Melvin.Her influence on all her family will be her legacy and she will be truly missed every day. We love you Mom for being the most wonderful and loving wife and mother we could ever ask for.A Service of Remembrance will take place at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. Cremation has already taken place.Reception immediately following at the house of Kris and Kerrie Melby (Red barn west of Canyon Creek) at 43923 Hwy 6 & 24.
