Fair ladies compete in county pageant

RIFLE ” Twenty girls ranging in age from 5 to 17 vied for several Miss Garfield County titles during the 2005 Garfield County Fair last week.

“We try to give girls in Garfield County who don’t do the rodeos or ag stuff a chance to be a part of the fair,” pageant organizer Kelly Diaz said. “This is a place where they can showcase their talents, too.”

This year, girls from Glenwood Springs to Parachute participated.

For some, like 8-year-old Sierra Berger, of Parachute, it was their first time competing.”It’s fun to see what’s going to happen,” she said.

For others, like Lit’l Miss winner Caitlin Diaz, it was just another pageant under her sash, so to speak.

The evening’s awards ceremony brought quite a crowd of family and friends to the high school auditorium. Though all the girls went home with something ” they all at least received a small trophy and a prize package ” only four girls were crowned.

Chantelle Cooper, of Parachute, was crowned 2005 Miss Garfield County Queen. The 15-year-old’s best friend, Dani Gonzales, got to crown Cooper. Gonzales was the 2004 Miss Garfield County Queen.
