CANYON CREEK – A two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon killed a Glenwood Springs man and snarled traffic for hours.

Roger Ruiz, 34, was killed when his vehicle was struck from behind by a semitrailer on eastbound Interstate 70 just west of the Canyon Creek exit around 4:30 p.m.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle possibly stalled, coming to a stop on the interstate, then was struck by the semitrailer.

Information about the semitrailer driver wasn’t available at presstime, but he appeared to be uninjured. The Colorado State Patrol did not release other information about the accident by press time.

Eastbound traffic was diverted at New Castle onto Highway 6, then back onto Interstate 70. Westbound traffic also experienced some delays. It’s the second fatal accident in that area in the last six months. An Oklahoma woman was killed in a Dec. 9 accident. The driver was charged with vehicular homicide.
