February home sales in Garfield County up 21 percent from January

The National Association of Realtors published data earlier this week to support that existing-home sales increased in February by 5.1 percent over January.

Here in Garfield County, February real estate transfers (all types) also posted an increase from 38 to 46, a difference of 21 percent.

The Western end of Garfield County has shown the highest increase in activity with Rifle taking the lead for the county with 9 transactions, equal to its January total.



However, New Castle, Silt and Battlement Mesa each also posted increases for the county with 8, 6 and 1, respectively. Carbondale, which typically leads the county, reported a decrease in transaction numbers to 4, as did Parachute to 2. Glenwood Springs remained even in transactions with 6.

As it pertains to dollar volume, New Castle took the county lead with 30 percent of the volume totaling $4,252,800. Glenwood Springs followed with 19 percent reporting $2.7 million, Rifle 18 percent with $2.5 million, and Silt 16 percent with $2.26 million. Carbondale decreased to 13.5 percent of the volume with $1.9 million, while Parachute and Battlement each totaled below 2 percent with $230,000 and $178,000, respectively.
