Only a few months removed from spending the month of May with a cast on her foot, Lauren Jean Fetzko isn’t showing any signs of hurt.

The Team Sopris swimmer splashed to four top-10 finishes at the Colorado Long Course State Championships, held July 29-31 at the University of Denver.

Fetzko placed fifth in the 11- and 12-year-old girls 50-yard freestyle (30.15 seconds), sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:22.52), eighth in the 400 freestyle (4:59.39) and ninth in the 100 freestyle (1:05.79).

“She finished her season taking a huge step towards the future,” Team Sopris coach Damon Garrison said.

Jack Cassidy chipped in with some big swims in the distance events for Sopris. He placed ninth in the 15-and-over boys 1,500 freestyle (18:23.53), 11th in the 800 freestlye (9:43.44) and 12th in the 400 individual medley (5:16.69).

Charlie Mechling had a ninth-place showing in the 14-and-under girls 1,500 freestyle (19:29.02).

Zachary Baker, Zoe Lyon, Maddie Mechling and Kaitlyn Vanderhoof all enjoyed strong swims in their first-ever state meet.
