A fire inside a Redstone home Saturday afternoon left residents temporarily displaced and caused an estimated $40,000 to $50,000 in damage, according to a Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District news release.

Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District responded to the blaze at 128 Redstone Blvd. around 2 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of smoke. Firefighters arrived to find smoke seeping from an exterior wall of the single-family home. Upon entry, crews discovered flames burning inside a kitchen wall.

Firefighters attacked the fire from both inside and outside the home, preventing it from spreading to the roof or causing further damage. To fully extinguish the flames, crews had to remove sections of the kitchen wall.

“Carbondale Fire was paged to this structure fire while crews were already responding to a car accident on Missouri Heights and a medical emergency in the Town of Carbondale,” Fire Chief Rob Goodwin said in the release. “Even with multiple emergencies occurring simultaneously across the fire district, our crews, in coordination with mutual aid partners, efficiently managed resources to staff all incidents and contain this fire, preventing further damage to the home.”

The residents were able to evacuate safely and will be displaced until repairs are made. No injuries were reported.

Carbondale Fire responded with two engines, while Roaring Fork Fire Rescue sent additional support. The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and Holy Cross Energy also assisted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
