Fire destroys two apartments in Battlement Mesa on Sunday

Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO

Two apartments in Battlement Mesa are a total loss after a fire broke out in one and spread to the other Sunday.

Four other apartments suffered heavy water damage, and the entire 16-unit Building D at 854 West Battlement Parkway was evacuated. There were no injuries.

The Grand Valley Fire Protection District responded at 12:14 p.m. Upon arrival fire crews found unit 204 fully involved with fire with the fire quickly spreading through the common attic space into the next apartment.

The fire was controlled in approximately 35 minutes by two engines, one ladder, and 15 firefighters.

Battlement Mesa Co. is housing all evacuees from the building while the fire is being investigated. The units involved are under police control until Colorado Bureau of Investigations is finished with the investigation.

The Grand Valley Fire Protection District was assisted by Colorado River Fire Rescue and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
