Firefighters snuff five-acre blaze in Rifle
Where there’s smoke there’s fire, though the proportions can be misleading.
A five-acre fire on private land south of Rifle put up enough smoke to appear to be a much larger blaze.
Matt Mollencamp, firefighter/paramedic with the Rifle Fire Department, said the fire is now out. There were no injuries.
One residence was threatened and received some damage, but was saved, he said.
The department was assisted by Burning Mountains Fire Department, the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit, and local homeowners.
The cause is under investigation.
