Five found after night outdoors

Search and rescue teams found five snowmobilers Monday morning after they were reported as missing when they failed to return from a trip into the Flat Tops Sunday.

The missing snowmobilers were Jim Walton, 26; Lena Walton, 24; Vicky Walton, 42; Miranda Watson, 24; and Eric Watson, 7; according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Garfield County Search and Rescue began the search at 4 a.m. Monday after receiving a report that the snowmobilers never returned from their outing on Coffee Pot Road in the Flat Tops.

Snowmobile teams from Garfield County Search and Rescue, West Eagle County Search and Rescue and friends of the missing people assisted in the search.

Rifle-based DBS Helicopters also helped in the search.

At 9 a.m., the West Eagle County team found the five snowmobilers uninjured southwest of the Grizzly Creek Cow Camp.

The snowmobiles were low on fuel. The rescue team helped them drive out.
