Artist Jay O’Shea has been participating in the Annual Fall Art Festival in Glenwood Springs for the past few years. Last year, the Lakewood resident even took home the Popular Choice Award in the amateur class. He competed in the Festival again this year, entering in the watercolor division.

When and where were you born?

Sept. 28, 1936, Sturgis, Mich.

How long have you lived in Colorado?

Off and on since 1962. I’ve lived in Lakewood for 30 years.

Family info: Wife of 47 years, Nancy; three children, six grandchildren.

What did you do for a living before retiring?

I worked for the U.S. Park Service. Retired in 1996.

What do you enjoy doing now that you are retired?

Painting; restoring old classic cars; big game hunting; skiing; bicycling; sailing.

What’s your favorite memory over the years?

I taught park planning in Egypt.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I had a three-month stint in Turkey. I’d like to go back there.

What words of advice can you offer to younger generations?

To think of others and find a volunteer service. That’s one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever experience. That’s the advice I give my grandkids.
