Flat Tops hiker rescued

According to a Garfield County Sheriff’s Office news release, Justin Weirman, 22, of Auburn, Ill., was hiking with five friends from Illinois when he began to trot downhill.

Soon, he began to run and lost control, tumbling end over end. He suffered a hip injury and an open abdominal wound that measured about 5 inches in diameter.

After receiving the report around 4:20 p.m., search and rescue teams from Garfield County, Routt County and the Colorado Air National Guard scrambled to find Weirman.

Once he was located, he was taken to a local hospital. Later, he was transported via St. Anthony’s Air Life helicopter to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver.

He was reported to be in stable condition and is expected to be released in several days.
