NORTHGLENN, Colo. (AP) ” A man suspected of trying to steal a motorcycle was shot in the leg after a foot-chase early Monday.

In a statement, police said 21-year-old Eric Henry was shot as he advanced toward an officer, reaching into his waistband and refusing orders to stop and show his hands.

Henry was being treated at Denver Health Medical Center.

An officer patrolling an apartment complex on foot said he saw Henry try to steal a motorcycle, sparking the chase that was joined by other officers.

The officer in the shooting was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

Several reports of stolen vehicle prompted the foot patrol.
