For second year, GSHS wins state mock trial tournament
COLORADO SPRINGS – For the second year in a row, Glenwood Springs High School has won the mock trial state tournament.
Glenwood Springs Team One, which won the regional tournament in Grand Junction on February 15, defeated Broomfield, Kent Denver and Coronado high schools in the first three rounds before defeating Boulder High School Saturday in the finals with a 5-0 decision.
Said coach Vic Zerbi: “The kids lived up to their potential. They were outstanding.”
Team 1 has qualified for the national tournament in New Orleans May 9 and 10, the Friday and Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend.
Zerbi was cautious in predicting success at this year’s national tournament. Last year Glenwood finished third at the national tournament, and he said they’ll “make every effort to live up to that.”
According to Zerbi, Glenwood is the smallest school to participate in the state tournament.
Results were only available for the top two teams, so the standing of Glenwood Springs Team Two is not known at press time.
