Forest Service holds oil and gas leasing DEIS open houses
The White River National Forest (WRNF) will host a series of informational public open houses to review details of its Oil and Gas Leasing Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and provide answers to the public’s questions.
A range of four alternatives will be presented that consider future land availability on the WRNF for oil and gas leasing along with the lease stipulations that would be applied to those lands for the protection of surface resources.
The open houses will be held from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Colorado River Valley Field Office, 2300 River Frontage Road in Silt; and from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District Headquarters Building, 301 Meadowood Drive in Carbondale.
The WRNF Oil and Gas Leasing DEIS is available on the WRNF webpage at http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/fs-usda-pop. php/?project=29938. In addition to the opportunity to comment at the open houses, comments on the DEIS will be accepted for 60 days from publication of the Notice of Availability (NOA) in the Federal Register. The NOA was published on Aug. 31. Comments will be accepted through Oct. 30. Comments may be submitted in writing by any of the following methods: mail to Scott Fitzwilliams, Forest Supervisor, White River National Forest Oil and Gas Leasing DEIS, P.O. Box 1919, Sacramento, CA 95812; email WRNFoilandgascomments@fscomments.org; or fax 916-456-6724.
