Fort Collins man killed at school construction site accident

A 25-year-old Fort Collins man died after he was struck by a falling metal beam at the Severance High School construction site.

The Weld County Coroner’s office identified the worker as Hayden Dean Wood of Fort Collins.

Windsor Severance Fire Rescue spokesman Todd Vess said emergency responders were dispatched to the incident about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to the construction site at 1200 Hidden Valley Parkway. A steel beam fell about 18 feet before striking Wood, according to Vess.

Wood was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, where he died Wednesday afternoon.

Local authorities and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.

A final manner and cause of death await the autopsy and lab reports, according to a release from the Weld County Coroner’s office.
