Four Mile roundabout construction scheduled for early June start

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – The roundabout at the bottom of Four Mile Road is expected to be completed sometime in August, city engineer Larry Thompson said.

City officials opened construction bids for the project, planned for the intersection of Midland Avenue, Four Mile Road and Airport Road, on Wednesday. All three bids received fell below the engineer’s estimate of $524,434.

The apparent low bidder for the project was KECI Colorado of Sedalia, which bid $428,869.

The city engineering department must first check to see if everything in the bid adds up correctly, and must be assured that the company is qualified before it endorses the bid to City Council.

The other two bidders were Condon Construction, which bid $449,020, and Gould Construction, which bid $486,586.

Both of those companies would have $10,000 taken off their bids because of Glenwood Springs’ local contractor preference. But if the numbers pan out, that won’t be enough to make either the low bidder, Thompson said.

The bid award will be on the May 15 City Council agenda, Thompson said.

If all goes according to the engineering department’s tentative schedule, the project will begin around the first week of June and end around Aug. 15.

Thompson said he will release a more definite work schedule and information on road delays shortly before the project commences.
