Frank Hugh Crowley of Grand Junction, a former Carbondale resident, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003. He was 88.

Mr. Crowley was born Nov. 29, 1914, in Glenwood Springs to Lula Thomson and Claude Crowley. He grew up on the family ranch at Thomasville.

He graduated from Carbondale Union High School in 1932.

As a young man, he worked on the Carlton Tunnel and at the Climax Mine.

He married Pearl Katherine Heffley on April 6, 1947, in Glenwood Springs.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a troop transport ship in the Pacific.

After the war, he worked for Public Service Co. of Colorado for 35 years, working in Leadville, Idaho Springs, Denver and Basalt.

He was a proud member of the Basalt Lions Club for more than 15 years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene “Bud” Crowley.

Mr. Crowley is survived by his wife, Pearl Katherine Crowley of Grand Junction; by a daughter and son-in-law, Loraine and Bob Richardson of Carbondale; by a son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Karen Crowley of Rifle; by grandchildren Bob and Frank Richardson and Jesse and Emily Crowley; by great-grandchildren Ian and Serena Richardson; by brothers Ray Crowley of Carbondale and Jim Crowley of Rifle; and by sisters Virginia Goode of Paonia and Marge Graham of Ohio.

A gathering of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at St. Mary’s of the Crown Catholic Church in Carbondale. A reception will follow.
