Fred J. Glassier

Fred J. Glassier, 67, died Dec. 24, 2006, of cancer, in Aspen. He was a lifelong Roaring Fork Valley resident.Fred was born April 20, 1939, in Glenwood Springs to Fredrick L. and Freda L. (Vasten) Glassier. He grew up on his family ranch in Basalt and graduated from Basalt High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army, was stationed in Fort Riley, Kan., and taught communications at West Point. After his duty in the service, Fred returned to the valley in 1964. He worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. in Aspen and Glenwood Springs for 20 years, along with owning a local construction company. Fred retired in 1989.He is survived by daughters Temple Glassier and Krystal G. Levy; mother; sister Joyce Glassier Smink; and grandsons Dylan Palardy, Tristin Palardy, Patrick Palardy and Parker Levy.Fred was preceded in death by his father.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at The Church of Carbondale.
