Freda Z. Nolen

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Friday, Dec. 24, 2004. She was born June 25, 1933 in Rock Springs, Wyo., to Julius and Amelia Zanella, who preceded her in death. The family moved to Glenwood Springs in 1944 when Freda was 10 years old. She attended nurse’s training in Denver, and later graduated from business school in Denver.Freda was married to James B. Nolen for 51 years. They retired in 1991 and have enjoyed living in Sun City, Ariz., since then. Freda enjoyed bingo, playing cards with friends, crossword puzzles and ceramics. She belonged and served as the treasurer of the Oakmont and Fairway ceramics clubs in Sun City. She and her husband were the past co-presidents of the Colorado Club of Sun City.She is survived by her husband; son Patrick and his wife, Kris, and their sons, Sean and Stephen, of Denver; daughter Julia Powell and her children, Damon and Shanna, of Ellensburg, Wash.; son Paul and his wife Becky of Tucson, and his daughter Guerin of Savannah, Ga.; her brother, Robert J. Zanella of Glenwood Springs; and her sister, Mary Anne Nickle of Aurora. A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the National Memorial Cemetery at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix. Cards may be sent to James B. Nolen, 10637 Salem Drive, Sun City, AZ 85351. The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
