Mountain Family Health Centers will be offering free health screenings throughout the region in May.The screenings are open to the public, and designed to check risk factors for potentially serious health problems. They include screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index and a heart disease risk assessment.Fasting is ideal for those being screened, but not required, and no appointment is necessary.The screenings will be held in Rifle on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Public Health Dept. at 195 W. 14th St.; May 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rifle City Market; and May 22 at the Rifle Public Library.The screenings will be held in Glenwood Springs on May 15 at Mountain Family Health Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 1905 Black Ave.; May 16 at the Glenwood Springs Mall, 51027 Highway 6 & 24, from 12:30-6 p.m.; and May 29 at the Rite Aid Pharmacies, 1412 Grand Ave., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.A Carbondale screening will be held at the Gordon Cooper Library on May 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and an Aspen screening will be held on May 27 at the Aspen Community Health Services office, 0405 Castle Creek Rd., from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Area businesses also can arrange for employee screenings at the place of business, by calling Sharla Gallegos at 618-3159.
