Girl Scout camp out

Girls age 5 or entering first grade can eat s’mores, sing songs and make new friends during the Girl Scouts’ Lazy Daisy Days of Summer July 25 and 26 at Sylvan Lake. Registration deadline is Monday, July 14. Information: 970-242-4461.

Doggie party



Join Rifle Recreation at the East UMTRA Site (off of U.S. 6, about a mile west of Railroad Avenue, follow the signs) for a doggie party from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 19. You and your pooch can enjoy a morning at the park, as long as you are up to date on your shots and can play well with other dogs. Information: 625-2151.

Geology tour



A guided geologic history tour of the Colorado River Valley canyons, Glenwood to New Castle, with a slide show and instruction is set for at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 24, and a field trip from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26. Registration deadline is July 22. Meet at Basalt Town Hall, 101 Midland Avenue, in Lions Park. Information: Dorothy Howard, 927-8214.

Mountain Fair

The 32nd Annual Carbondale Mountain Fair runs July 25-27 in Sopris Park, Carbondale. This free outdoor event brings 135 artisans from all parts of the country, including over 20 local artists, 22 food booths with an international menu, and 14 main stage performances featuring nationally touring music groups as well as regional and local performers. In addition there will be eight local children’s performances, plus a children’s area with games, hands-on activities, performance tent, contests as well as adult contests and competitions.
