Fund established for teen with cancer

A fund has been established for a Parachute teenager who is seriously ill with cancer.

Doctors at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver determined recently that April Quick, 19, of Parachute has a cancerous thyroid tumor the size of a baseball in her throat.

April was airlifted to Denver after she experienced tremendous breathing difficulties last Sunday. Upon her arrival at the center, an emergency C-section was performed on April, who was nine months pregnant. Her son Damian was born healthy and is at the medical center’s maternity ward.

As of Friday, doctors had performed surgery to remove as much cancerous tissue as possible in and around April’s thyroid.

At that time, they discovered more cancerous tissue in her chest.

April’s family, her boyfriend and Damian’s father Manuel Serna, and the Serna family are with April in Denver.

Donations for April, Manuel and Damian Serna and their families to cover extensive medical bills and expenses related to their baby may be made at any local Alpine Bank. Those donating should reference the Quick Family Benefit Fund at the bank.

Cards, donations and baby items for April Quick, who is at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, can be sent to: The Quick Family, 130 Little Echo Drive, Parachute, CO 81635.
