Funds speedily raised

Dear Editor,

Our weekend Roaring Fork Rail Rides fund-raising project was a success, thanks to the speeder operators who brought their wonderful machines over from the Front Range. On Saturday and Sunday past, we took more than 100 riders up the railroad corridor from Glenwood’s O’Leary Park to the Carbondale 133 rail crossing. Our NRHS chapter would like to thank the following for material help: Glenwood Springs Post Independent, Paul at Channel 12, Glenwood True Value Hardware and last, but certainly not least, the Board and Management of RFTA, our own Roaring Fork Transit Agency.

It was necessary to cancel the 1 and 3 p.m. trips on Sunday, due to mechanical problems; our apologies to those who came expecting to take a ride at those times. The owner/operators of the speeders were very impressed with our “hometown” railroad and promised to come back soon for more rides.

If you are interested in becoming involved in our chapter’s various projects (restoring our speeders and creating the railway museum at the Glenwood depot), please contact me at 928-8721 or by e-mail at
