Garage a total loss in Rifle house fire

RIFLE – Firefighters called to a house fire at 132 Daniel Ave. Sunday afternoon were able to contain the damage to the garage of the home, according to Maria Pina, spokeswoman for the Rifle Fire Protection District.

Firefighters spent much of Monday at the scene investigating the cause of the blaze, and the investigation continues.

After receiving a call at 2:44 p.m. Sunday, 16 firefighters in seven pieces of firefighting apparatus raced to the home, where they found the garage fully engulfed in flames. The fire was spreading to the attic, but firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to the living area. They also worked to limit damage to an adjacent home and neighboring business.

The fire was under control within 90 minutes, and firefighters cleared the scene at 8:14 p.m., Pina said.

The garage and its contents were a total loss.

The 1,200-square-foot, three-bedroom manufactured home was built in 2005, and purchased in 2007 by Tim and Veronica Rhodes, according to records posted online by the Garfield County Assessor’s Office.

Other responding agencies included Burning Mountains Fire Protection District, Grand Valley Fire Protection District, Rifle Police Department, Xcel Energy, Rifle Water Department, Red Cross, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and Victim Response Team, and CSI Security.
