Garfield County Sheriff’s Honor Guard serves at Dallas memorial

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office sent four of its Honor Guard members to memorial services held Thursday in Dallas for Police Officer Michael Smith, one of the five officers slain last week protecting a peaceful demonstration in Dallas.

Four deputies left Wednesday to be in Dallas at 8 a.m. Thursday, where they spent their day helping and honoring the officer and his family.

They were expected to be part of a cordon when the fallen officer’s casket was brought into the ceremony. Honor Guard members were to line the walkway and entrance to the ceremony, standing at attention and saluting the fallen officers passing by.

They will return to Garfield County on Friday and resume their normal work schedules.
