GarCo to purchase 7 new cars for fleet

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Garfield County will be buying seven new vehicles for its fleet this year, including two Ford Escape hybrid SUVs that get up to 41 miles per gallon in city driving, according to the Ford website.

The vehicles will be purchased from Glenwood Springs Ford, for a price “not to exceed $229,631,” according to a document provided to the county commissioners.

In addition to the two SUVs, the vehicles will include a 3/4-ton, gas-powered pickup; a half-ton, gas-powered pickup; a one-ton, 15-passenger van; two diesel-powered, 3/4-ton pickups, and a one-ton diesel truck.

Most of the vehicles are for the use of road and bridge personnel, the commissioners were told, with the exception of the 15-passenger van, which is for the county’s correctional department.

Glenwood Springs Ford was one of two dealers that completed bids, which were submitted for the contract. The other was from Courtesy Ford in Littleton, Colorado, which bid $276,102.

Five other bidding dealers did not submit complete bids, according to county documents.
