Garfield County candidates bring in the big bucks for campaign
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
GARFIELD COUNTY, Colorado ” If elections were won by the sheer volume of campaign contributions, Republican candidate Mike Samson would be the hands down winner in the Garfield County commissioner District 3 race.
Samson has raised about $11,000 more than his opponent, Democrat Steve Carter, in this year’s election battle between them. So far, Samson has accumulated $40,110 in total contributions, according to the Colorado Secretary of State’s campaign finance reports. Carter raised $28,881 for his campaign.
In 16 days of fundraising between Oct. 10 and Oct. 26, Samson brought in $8,590 in contributions compared to only $1,650 for Carter. Carter brought in the least amount of the four county commissioner candidates.
However, Carter and Samson both brought in less than Glenwood Springs artist and blacksmith Stephen Bershenyi during that period. The Democratic candidate has raised $10,590 in those 16 days, ending up with $33,302 in total contributions. Republican John Martin, a three-term incumbent running against Bershenyi, has raised a total of $13,450 during his campaign this year.
Samson had five individual contributors who donated $1,000 to his campaign in the last reporting cycle.
One contributor donated $2,500 to Bershenyi’s campaign.
State records indicate that Bershenyi had the largest campaign war chest as of Oct. 29, with $13,882 in the bank. Samson, Martin and Carter followed, respectively, with balances of $7,370, $4,345, and $2,211 as of Oct. 31.
