Garfield County Fair to feature all-inclusive family Friday
RIFLE, Colorado – Families can take in the Friday night festivities at the Garfield County Fair this summer, including the pro rodeo, for a single gate fee of $5 per person.
The all-inclusive admission for Friday, Aug. 6, is intended to draw more people, especially families, to what’s already traditionally one of the biggest nights at the fair.
Garfield County commissioners, at their Monday meeting, approved the county fair board’s recommendation for event and gate pricing for the primary four days of the fair, Aug. 4-7.
The Friday gate fee will include the rodeo and all other on-grounds attractions.
On the other nights, there will be no admission at the gate, but tickets will be sold for the various attractions, including rodeo events and the Saturday night demolition derby.
Tokens will also be sold for the kayak pool, climbing wall and video arcade. Beer and food concessions will also be separate.
“The county fair needs to be as economical as possible, and the intent this year is to try to make a profit and offer more events and attractions for people to enjoy,” fair board chairman Jimmy Smith said during Monday’s meeting.
The fair board presented two options for event and gate pricing at this year’s fair. The preferred option was the one that was approved, while another option would have included a gate fee on all four of the nights, plus admission to the various events.
The difference is expected to be made up in the number of exhibitors that are expected to participate in this year’s fair, Smith explained.
