The 2024-25 all-state rosters were released earlier this week, and showed a surprising lack of Garfield County representation, showing how strong the basketball talent throughout the state is.
Garfield County saw seven different programs make it to the CHSAA state tournament, highlighted by both boys and girls squads from Coal Ridge, Glenwood, and Roaring Fork making the dance. The Coal Ridge Titans varsity boys team advanced to the state Final Four for the first time in program history.

The Titans varsity boys team is shockingly the only team in the entire county to have a player make the first or second team rosters. Coal Ridge senior Ben Simons was named to the 4A second team all-state roster, while his teammate, junior Alex Cornejo was named as an honorable mention.
“It is really cool,” Simons said. “A really great honor to be recognized. It is a misfortune that Diego (Gamez) didn’t make the list, but he is a great player and teammate. He and Alex will be a tough duo to face next season.”
“There are 59 teams in 4A, which means Ben and Alex were some of the best players out of roughly 300 players statewide,” Titans head coach Paul Harvey said. “Both players had outstanding seasons, and they showed they could perform on the biggest stage as they showed during the playoffs.”
Brilee Jensen, the state’s second leading rebound getter (8.3 per game) in the 4A girls Western Slope League, was also named to the honorable mention roster.

Although the Roaring Fork Rams girls varsity team didn’t push as deep into the state playoffs as the Titans, they may have had a more impressive season. They dropped only three games throughout the entire 2024-25 season. They had two girls represented on the 3A honorable mention list in sophomore Riley Bevington and senior Carley Crownhart.
“I can’t imagine that there are 10 players in 3A that are better than Riley,” Rams head coach Mike Vidokavich said. “She really came on at the end of the season. She had a double double just about every night, and was one vote away from winning Co-player of the Year.”
The Rams boys had an equally impressive season. They went 12-0 in league play, finishing first in the 3A boys Western Slope League. They have an exciting upcoming season with honorable mention juniors Lucas Carballeria and Kiko Pena returning for their senior seasons. Grand Valley junior Daniel Gronewoller was also named to the honorable mention roster.
