Garfield County Libraries schedule for April 21-27

New events to learn and celebrate comics are coming up in the next few weeks at the Garfield County libraries.
The Silt Library is having Narcan training with Maggie Seldeen from High Rockies Harm Reduction. Learn how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose and the basics on how opioids interact with our bodies, as well as the risks for overdose and tools and resources to prevent and reverse opioid overdose. This is a free event at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. For more information, call the Silt Library at 970-876-5500.
The Rifle branch library is having Brain Development Workshops to shape your child’s brain through positive interactions, nurturing environments and intentional engagement. Join for engaging and supportive discussions where successes and challenges as a parent can be shared. This is an opportunity to ask questions about health brain development while your children participate in fun and interactive activities. This is a free and bilingual event presented by Focused Kids and the Garfield County libraries. Join the Rifle Library at 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24 and Thursday, May 1, and for more information, call 970-625-3471.
The Carbondale Library has two events coming up: first, Geri-Fit: Strength Training for Older Adults is coming up at 12:15 p.m. on Thursdays, from April 24 through June 19, except June 5. Most of the bodybuilding exercises will be performed seated or in chairs with a set of light dumbbell weights. There won’t be any dancing, aerobics or choreography and participants won’t have to get on the floor. Enrollment is open for adults 60 years and older and all fitness levels are welcome. Space is limited and registration is required. Call Debby Sutherland at 970-625-5282 ext. 3084 to register.
Another event coming to the Carbondale Library is Books in Bars, where community members are invited to join local librarians at La Raza to discuss the book, “Erasure” by Percival Everett at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24. The event is free and small appetizers will be provided by the library. All other food and drinks are the responsibility of the attendees. Copies of the book are available for checkout and for more information, call 970-963-2889.
Celebrate the Day of the Young Child, Dia del Nino, through a virtual celebration. Tune in through Zoom from 2-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, for presentations, stories, music, entertainment and more. Anyone can pick up a laptop and a wifi hotspot at their local library if needed, but remember quantities are limited. This is a free event and for more information, call the Rifle branch library at 970-625-3471.
