Garfield County Libraries schedule for April 7-13

Garfield County Libraries is hosting a series of upcoming events celebrating libraries and more.
Let the community know you support the Garfield County Libraries with one of their new yard signs. Join other readers in your neighborhood by displaying your yard sign and show your love for reading, books, library events and the literary community. The Glenwood Springs Historical Society invites you to the Glenwood Springs branch library at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10 to listen to Christi Couch present her explorations and discoveries of our area’s history with a side of trivia. Couch has been exploring Colorado’s historic places since she was a child and has volunteered for the Glenwood Springs Historical Society to start the hiking group, Finding Colorado. Couch seeks out history related adventures for fellow history buffs looking for our state’s historical gems. This event is free. Celebrate National Poetry Month at the Glenwood Springs library by inviting writers of all ages to submit up to three poems for a Haiku contest and to attend a special writing workshop. Haiku, the traditional Japanese poem of 17 syllables in three lines of five, seven, five, evoking images of the natural world. Submit your original haiku poetry to the contest for a chance of fame and ice cream. Haiku submissions are due April 16 by emailing tlamee@gclpd.org or through the online contest form that can be found on the event listing at http://www.gclpd.org. The Haiku writing workshop is 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
VOICES, in partnership with the Garfield County Libraries invites youth, age 10-16 and sage, age 75 and up, members of the community to a safe and welcoming spaces to cultivate story sharing and deep listening at the Glenwood Springs branch library. Share stories to learn about one another and understand the intricacies of life. Snacks will be provided and a skilled facilitator will be present. There will be two events, from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 and Thursday, May 15.
Take Flight Through History with aviation expert and historian Ernie LeRoy for an exhilarating journey through the skies as he uncovers some of the most fascinating moments in aviation history. From the daring flight of Amelia Earhart to the mysterious “Night China Invaded Colorado” and even a B-25 crash at La Junta Airport, LeRoy will bring these captivating stories to life. With decades of experience in the Air Force and aerospace industry, he has insider knowledge to make history soar. This event is free and presented by the Rifle Heritage Center at the Rifle branch library at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. For more information, call 970-625-4862.
Are you ready to own your own home? This NEWSED homebuyer workshop is designed to help you navigate the path to homeownership as well as earn a CHFA certification that will be valid for a year. This free education course will be offered simultaneously in English and Spanish and will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19.
