Garfield County Libraries schedule for March 24-30

Garfield County Libraries graphic
Garfield County Libraries.

Garfield County Libraries has some new events to help new moms and graphic novel readers starting and a couple standalone events coming up.

For new moms, the “Breastfeeding Support” events are here for guidance, support and a community to help them thrive. These events will have opportunities to chat with professionals and fellow moms who understand what newcomers are going through. Participants can get ongoing education and learning at every stage of their journey, expert guidance, connection with other moms and help from bilingual staff from the Roaring Fork Breastfeeding Coalition to get the resources needed in your language. The group will meet 11 a.m. to noon the third Friday of every month at Rifle Branch Library. For more information, call the Rifle Branch Library at 970-625-3471.

The Carbondale Library has two standalone events coming up: an English session at 3 p.m. and a Spanish session at 4 p.m. on April 9, Jan Schubert & Friends are visiting to present the tale of “The Girl and the Chenoo” through use of stringed puppets, simple percussion instruments and song. The story originates from the Passamaquoddy Tribe in eastern Maine. The show is free and suitable for children five and older. For more information, call the Carbondale Branch Library at 970-963-2889.

The second standalone event at the Carbondale Branch Library at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 is a screening of the film “Free for All: The Public Library.” This documentary tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea a reality. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today’s librarians who serve the public despite working in the current contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open for all.

Finally, all youth graphic novel readers are invited to the Carbondale Branch Library at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 10 to a Book Launch Party to celebrate the newest graphic novel from Raina Telgemeier during National Library Week. Stop by for cupcakes, activities and a free copy of the novel, “The Cartoonists Club.” Registration is required and this is a free event exclusively for children in third grade and up.

Be sure to visit the libraries’ events page, as some events may require pre-registration or include details not listed here. The webpage can be found at gcpld.org/news-and-events
