Garfield County Libraries schedule for May 12-18

The Garfield County Libraries have several events planned for the coming days, including community learning opportunities about reading, mustangs and hacks to save money.
Adults are invited to a special in person craft event at the Rifle branch library. At 11 a.m. Monday in honor of Mother’s Day, use recycled books to create beautiful flowers. The event is bilingual and open to people 18 years or older. Registration is required, sign up at the front desk or call the Rifle branch library at 970-625-3471.
The Rifle library is also holding an event on how to save energy and money at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 14. Learn the top five most effective home energy improvements from smart thermostats to solar power. Discover easy and budget-friendly changes that can lead to long-term savings. For more information, call the Rifle branch library.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, the Rifle branch library is hosting the Human Library. Sit with three of six individuals and read them through conversation as if they were books. Space is limited and registration is required. Visit gcpld.org to register or get more information.
Join Garfield County Libraries Executive Director Jamie LaRue and other members of the community to discuss the current challenges libraries in America are facing. This event starts at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 19 at the Rifle branch library. This discussion will be about the recent increase in book challenges, the scrutiny public libraries are facing, governmental interference and more. For more information, call the Rifle branch library.
Explore the journey of Colorado’s wild mustangs throughout their history in the West. The Silt branch Library is hosting the first event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 and the second event takes place at the Glenwood Springs branch library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29. Volunteers from Friends of the Mustangs and the Piceance-East Douglas HMA will weave together storytelling, visuals and practical insights to inspire conservation, educate the community and highlight real ways to get involved through volunteering and adoption. Anyone interested in adopting a mustang will also receive essential information about the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) adoption requirements and learn how to prepare to welcome a mustang into their community and care. For more information, visit gcpld.org or friendsofthemustang.org.
