Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Warrant arrest: Deputies stopped a motorist in the 7000 mile of County Road 317 south of Rifle at 4 p.m. on Aug. 21. David Michael Smith, 39, of Grand Junction, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant, and was cited for driving with invalid license plates, driving without proof of insurance and driving without a valid driver’s license. He was later freed on bond.

Harassment: Deputies responded to a disturbance in the 3100 mile of Highway 13 north of Rifle at 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 21. Nicholas Spine, 26, address unknown, was cited for harassment.



Assault: Deputies were called to an assault in the 500 block of County Road 130 in West Glenwood at 11 p.m. on Aug. 21. They arrested Thomas Rowan, 49, of Glenwood Springs on suspicion of assault and arrested Todd Alan Hurst, 36, of Glenwood Springs on suspicion of harassment.

Child abuse: Deputies responded to a 911 call placed at 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 22 from an address west of Rifle. On investigation, deputies learned that unsupervised children had placed the call. They located the adult who was responsible for their care, Brenda Yuiliana Ortega Carrillo, 24, and cited her for child abuse.



Warrant arrest: A deputy stopped a motorist for speeding at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the 1500 mile of County Road 100 near Carbondale. The driver, Gabriel Alcala, 32, of Carbondale, was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear and was arrested. He was also cited for speeding 10 mph over the limit and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later freed on bond.

Vandalism, theft: Deputies took reports on Aug. 22 of a vehicle vandalized in the 100 block of West Tamarack Circle, and of a license plate stolen off a boat trailer in the 100 block of Roan Creek Drive, both in Battlement Mesa.

Criminal mischief: After receiving a report on Aug. 23 of vandalism to a pool table at a club house in the 800 block of West Battlement Parkway, which was captured on a surveillance camera, deputies cited Alexander Wyscaver-Hartsell, 18, of Parachute for criminal mischief.

Driving under suspension: Deputies stopped to help a motorist on Highway 82 near Carbondale at 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 23. The under-18 male driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license and was driving without proof of insurance. The deputies impounded the vehicle, cited the teen and released him to his parents.
