PARACHUTE, Colorado – Garfield County deputies shot an intoxicated man with a Taser early Friday morning after he came toward them with a gun, according to an arrest affidavit.Darin John Difeo, 35, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of assault, prohibited use of a weapon, obstructing a peace officer, unlawful use of a controlled substance and other charges.Around 2:53 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Silver Queen Circle. A woman called in that her husband was intoxicated and was wrecking the house. She said he had grabbed a gun and at one point took her phone and slapped her.Deputies arrived at the house and the woman came outside with two children. Three deputies approached the front door. They saw an overturned chair and glass missing from a glass top end table, deputies said in the affidavit. They announced their presence and Difeo asked where his son was. Deputies heard a firearm “being made ready to fire,” the affidavit says. They yelled for Difeo to come out with his hands up and empty, but Difeo replied by saying, “Come and get me I’m ready!” and “I’m coming out with my hands full!” deputies said.Deputies took cover and loudly repeated the commands, the affidavit says, but they heard footsteps coming down the hall.A deputy saw Difeo appear with a gun in his left hand and quickly shot him in the stomach with a Taser, the affidavit says.Deputies said Difeo dropped the gun and a loaded magazine on the ground, leaned against the wall and slid down to a seated position onto an end table. Deputies “assisted the suspect to the ground,” the affidavit says, but Difeo kept resisting and struggling with deputies until they shot him with a Taser again.Deputies said Difeo later kicked the cage in a patrol vehicle and hit his head against the vehicle’s window. He allegedly threatened a deputy and said he was having trouble breathing and thought he was going to die.Difeo then said “he would be OK if I just let him out and tied him to something,” a deputy wrote in the affidavit. The deputy took Difeo to Valley View Hospital where he tested positive for “amphetamine,” the affidavit says.Difeo was subsequently taken to the Garfield County Jail. He appeared in court Monday for an advisement hearing and had not posted a $15,000 bond.Difeo told authorities he was a self-employed directional driller.Contact Pete Fowler: 384-9121pfowler@postindependent.comPost Independent, Glenwood Springs Colorado CO
