Garfield County sheriff’s report

Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Violation of a restraining order: At 11:10 p.m. on Aug. 4, deputies responded to a report of an intoxicated man on I-70 in Rifle. Richard James Medina, 42, of Rifle, was arrested and booked at the county jail for violating an order violation barring him from drinking, and for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later released on bond.

Driving under the influence: At 5:57 a.m. on Aug. 5, deputies were called to a disturbance in the 100 block of Angelica Circle in Battlement Mesa. Jennifer Rae Upchurch, 22, of Parachute, was later arrested for eluding a police officer, suspicion of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.



Assault: At 4:59 p.m. on Aug. 5, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of Cowen Drive outside of Carbondale. Lorena Flores-Medina, 46, address unknown, was arrested on suspicion of assault, criminal mischief and child abuse and booked at the county jail. She was released on bond.

Violation of a restraining order: At 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 5, deputies contacted a man in the 100 block of Silverton Court in Parachute with an outstanding warrant. Caleb James Smith, 19, of Parachute, was arrested and later released on bond.



Harassment: At 3:15 a.m. on Aug. 6, deputies responded to call in the 100 mile of County Road 302 in Parachute. Jerred Sanchez, 22, of Parachute, was arrested for domestic violence, harassment and criminal mischief and later released on bond.

Theft: At 5:27 p.m. on Aug. 6, a deputy took a report of a stolen bicycle in the 100 block of Highway 133 outside Carbondale.

Animal cruelty: At 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 6, Animal Control responded to a report of a horse being shot in the 1700 County Road 219. Jarrod Edwards, 26, of Rifle, was arrested for cruelty to animals and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. The case is still under investigation. Edwards was released on bond.

Trespass: At 11:56 p.m. on Aug. 6, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of Silverbell Place in Battlement Mesa. Nettie Mae Fry, 27, of Parachute, was arrested for violation of a protection order and trespass. She was released on bond.

Dog at large: At 4:22 a.m. on Aug. 7, deputies responded to a report of a dog loose on I-70 near Glenwood Springs, causing a two-vehicle accident. The owner, Lara Fergen, 45, of Glenwood Springs, was cited for a dog at large.

Violation of a restraining order: At 4:58 a.m. on Aug. 7, deputies contacted an intoxicated man at County Roads 125 and 117 in Glenwood Springs. Wesley Taylor Morris, 35, of Carbondale, was arrested for violating a court order barring him from drinking. He was released on bond.

Theft: At 7:57 a.m. on Aug. 7, a deputy took a report of a stolen bicycle in the 3000 mile of County Road 114 outside of Glenwood Springs.

Theft: At 8:33 p.m. on Aug. 8, deputies took a theft report at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park.

Warrant arrest: At 3:23 a.m. on Aug. 9, deputies recovered a stolen vehicle on I-70 in Glenwood Springs. Carlos Juan Alan, 25, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, for an outstanding warrant and for driving under restraint.

Warrant arrest: At 3:44 a.m. on Aug. 9, deputies arrested Todd Allen Young, 46, of Colorado Springs, on I-70 in Glenwood Springs, on an outstanding warrant.

Criminal Impersonation: At 12:08 a.m. on Aug. 10, a deputy contacted a vehicle for speeding on I-70 outside of Parachute. The driver gave a false name and was later found to have a suspended driver’s license. Valentine Murillo Gonzalez, 19, of Parachute, was arrested for driving under restraint and criminal impersonation and booked at the county jail. He was released on bond.

Criminal Impersonation: At 4:31 a.m. on Aug. 10, deputies stopped a vehicle in the 2000 mile of County Road 100 in Carbondale for a traffic violation and arrested Christian Alberto Sanchez, 18, of Carbondale for driving under revocation. When he was being booked into the county jail, deputies learned he had provided a false identity. Sanchez was cited for driving under suspension and criminal impersonation. He was released on bond.

Theft: At 5:58 p.m. on Aug. 11, deputies took a theft report in the 400 block of Lodgepole Circle near Parachute.

Driving under the influence: At 9:29 p.m. on Aug. 11, a deputy stopped a vehicle on I-70 outside of Glenwood Springs for speeding. Matthew John Dixon, 30, of Glenwood Springs, was was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and booked at the county jail. He was released on bond.
