Garfield County Sheriff’s Report
Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Dangerous dog: Yolanda Lynn Walking Eagle, 34, of Battlement Mesa was cited at 5:30 p.m. April 14 for owning a dangerous dog and for not having her dog licensed.
Chicken attacks: Garfield County deputies are seeking the owner of a dog that is suspected of killing chickens in the Silt area. Deputies were called at 3:15 p.m. on April 15 regarding an incident in the 3000 mile of County Road 214.
Found paraphernalia: Deputies discovered a large amount of drug paraphernalia on April 15 in the 4000 mile of County Road 309 near Rulison. The scene was processed for evidence.
Underage drinking: A deputy stopped a vehicle at 5 a.m. on April 16 for speeding and failing to drive in a single lane in a western Battlement Mesa neighborhood. Four juveniles in the vehicle were cited for alcohol violations, and released to their parents or guardians.
Dog at large: Jose E. Pineda Reyes, 37, of New Castle was cited at 5 p.m. April 16 for a dog that he was taking care of running loose on Pinon Drive in New Castle.
Dog at large: Laura Ware Maine, 46, of Carbondale was cited at 5:30 p.m. April 16 after a deputy spotted her dog running in the road on County Road 100 near Carbondale. The deputy impounded the dog for its safety.
Felony child abuse: Yolanda Guillermo-Castillo, 38, of Battlement Mesa was cited on suspicion of felony child abuse after deputies were called to a incident at 5:30 p.m. on April 16 on Battlement Mesa.
Warrant arrest: Daniel Joseph Southworth, 28, of Rifle was arrested at 11:30 a.m. April 17 on U.S. Highway 6 near Silt on a Garfield County warrant for failure to pay fines.
Habitual traffic offender: Javier Medina Chimal, 34, of Carbondale was stopped at 12:30 p.m. April 17 for speeding in the 3000 mile of County Road 100 near Carbondale. He was found to be driving without a valid license and placed under arrest. He was also cited for speeding 25 mph over the posted limit.
Warrant arrest: David Lee Johnson, 49, of Rifle was arrested at 4 p.m. April 17 on Garden Lane in Rifle on a warrant for theft. He was also cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
Domestic violence assault: Daniel Carden, 35, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of assault and harassment at 6 p.m. on April 17 after deputies were called about a domestic assault that had occurred some time earlier on Michels Circle in Glenwood Springs.
