Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Loose dogs: At 10:49 a.m. on Jan. 23, Animal Control was called out to deal with dogs in the Midvalley Drive area near New Castle. The owner was identified and is being sought for a summons.

Car bites dog: At 12:03 p.m. on Jan. 23, Animal Control responded to a citizen complaint of a dog that was hit by a vehicle on I-70 near Glenwood Springs. The dog was taken to an area animal hospital, and the owner of the dog is being sought.



Loose dogs: At 2:20 p.m. on Jan. 23, Animal Control responded to a call regarding three stray dogs on Mustang Mesa Trail, in the Grass Mesa area south of Rifle. The dogs were impounded and taken to an area animal hospital to be held. No owner was identified.

Driving under the influence: At 9:53 p.m. on Jan. 23, deputies stopped a vehicle for weaving on Sunrise Court (CR 214) in the Peach Valley area. Jesse Townsend Jr., 47, of Silt, was subsequently arrested on charges of weaving and drunken driving, and taken to the county jail.
