Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Driving under the influence: Deputies stopped a motorist for traveling in the passing lane on Highway 82 at 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 19. John Calderon, 48, of Carbondale was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving in the passing lane and driving with a defective turn signal. He was later freed on bond.

Warrant arrest: Deputies stopped a motorist for speeding on County Road 335 near New Castle at 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 19. The driver, William Skyler Dungan, 21, of Rifle was wanted on a $2,000 Garfield County warrant for failure to appear on an earlier traffic charge. He was arrested on suspicion of speeding 20 mph over the limit and on the warrant, and later released on bond.



Nuisance dogs: Deputies cited Scottie Jean Gunther, 37, of Rifle, after investigating an incident of a dog harassing chickens in Rifle Village South on Aug. 19; and cited Cynthia Kay Olson, 58, of Carbondale after receiving a complaint about a barking dog on Aug. 20.

Driving under the influence: Deputies stopped a motorist seen driving without the vehicle’s headlights on near Harvey Gap Reservoir at 4:55 a.m. on Aug. 20. The driver, Merardo Arodi Sotelo-Iturralde, 34, of Rifle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, careless driving and and failing to obtain a Colorado driver’s license within 30 days after moving to the state. He was later freed on bond.



Warrant arrest: Deputies arrested Carlos Juan Alan, 25, of Rifle on a failure to comply warrant. He was arrested on I-70 near Parachute at 1:14 p.m. on Aug. 20. He was later freed on bond.

Driving under the influence: Deputies stopped a motorist for failing to obey a traffic signal at County Road 300 and Cardinal Way in Parachute at 4 a.m. on Aug. 21. Michael James Cooney, 39, of Parachute was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, failing to use turn signals, failing to obey a traffic sign and failure to drive in a single lane. He was later freed on bond.

Underage drinking: Deputies responded to a suspicious incident at a vacant house in the 2500 block of Highway 82 in Glenwood Springs at 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 21. Deputies cited five people for underage drinking, including Jose Hernan Vega-Torres, 18, of Carbondale, Gibran Chavez, 20, of Glenwood Springs and three minors. They arrested Chavez on suspicion of criminal impersonation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was later freed on bond.

Warrant arrest: Deputies stopped a motorist for a missing or defective vehicle light at 5:40 a.m. on Aug. 21 in the 1500 block of County Road 100 near Carbondale. Lloyd Edwin Willits, 48, of El Jebel was found to be wanted on a Denver County warrant for failure to appear and was placed under arrest. He was also cited for driving with a defective vehicle light and driving with an expired license. He was later freed on bond.
