Garfield County Sheriff’s Report
Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Warrant arrest, driving under restraint: Deputies contacted a vehicle at 4:24 p.m. on Jan. 6 in the 1900 block of Airport Road in Rifle for a traffic violation. Steven Everett Cruz, 46, of Silt, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Garfield County Jail. He was released on bond.
Harassment, child abuse: Deputies were called to a disturbance at 8:56 p.m. on Jan. 6 in the 100 block of Roan Creek Drive near Parachute. William Bruce Crowhurst, 56, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of harassment, violation of child restraint provisions, child abuse through negligence, domestic violence and resisting arrest. He was lodged in the Garfield County Jail.
Serving alcohol to minors: Deputies responded to a juvenile party at County Road 250 and Squirrel Valley Road in Silt at 3:03 a.m. on Jan. 7. Several people were contacted and released, and several other parties fled from the party and were not located. After further investigation it was determined that Jared Earl Zelenka, 24, of Silt, had purchased alcohol for the party knowing that minors would be present. Zelenka was cited and released.
Driving under restraint: Deputies stopped a vehicle at County Road 215 and Garden Gulch at 7:13 a.m. on Jan. 7 for a traffic violation. Banani E. Lewis, 33, of Colorado Springs, was issued a summons for driving under restraint and driving without proof of insurance.
Harassment: Deputies responded to a reported domestic incident in progress in the 100 block of Highway 325 outside of Rifle at 2:06 p.m. on Jan. 7. Joseph Brian Whitman, 31, of Rifle, was taken into custody and transported to the Garfield County Jail.
Accident: A parked patrol vehicle was struck by a passing motorist while attending to an accident on Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon at 2:26 p.m. on Jan. 8. No one was injured, and the investigation was turned over to the Colorado State Patrol.
Vandalism: A deputy responded to a report of vandalism at 3:49 p.m. on Jan. 8 in the 300 block of Ponderosa Circle in Parachute. The case is inactive pending further information.
Domestic violence, harassment: Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Battlement Parkway in Battlement Mesa at 10:50 p.m. on Jan. 8. After conducting an investigation, Jason Ture Hendrickson, 38, of Parachute was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, child abuse through negligence, criminal mischief, harassment and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana, and lodged in the Garfield County Jail.
Blasting cap assistance: Deputies assisted a resident in the 100 block of Mountain Shadows Drive in West Glenwood at 4:06 p.m. on Jan. 9 with removing old blasting caps from a residence.
