Garfield County Sheriff’s Report

Editor’s note: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Criminal mischief: Deputies responded to a report of criminal mischief at 2:28 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the 1700 mile of County Road 103 outside of Carbondale. The case has been closed pending leads or suspects.

Warrant arrest: At 4:54 p.m. on Feb. 17, deputies stopped a vehicle in the 900 mile of County Road 244 in the Rifle area and learned that a passenger had a warrant for her arrest. Heather Alysse Gamble, 22, of Rifle, was transported to the Garfield County Jail for the warrant. She was released on bond.



Underage drinking, possession: At 5:53 p.m. on Feb. 17, deputies made contact with a juvenile in the 6800 block of Highway 82 outside of Glenwood Springs who appeared to be intoxicated and was found to be in possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. After the investigation, the juvenile was released on a summons to a sober party.

Possession: Deputies stopped a vehicle at 2:55 p.m. on Feb. 18 on Interstate 70 outside of Parachute. During the contact, deputies located drugs in the vehicle and issued a summons to Shawn Michael Koch, 43, of Eagle for possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.



Criminal tampering: Deputies responded to a criminal mischief call at 1:50 a.m. on Feb. 20 in the 100 block of Hawthorne Way in Battlement Mesa area. Islam Ghyz Boumghar, 20, of Grand Junction, was cited for criminal tampering.

Driving under the influence: Deputies conducted a traffic stop at 1:56 a.m. on Feb. 19 at County Road 100 and Willow Lane in Carbondale. Ivan Andrade, 20, was summoned to court for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Stolen calf: Deputies were advised of the theft of a calf valued at $400 to $600 from a ranch in the 500 mile of County Road 335 in the Silt area reported at 3:26 p.m. on Feb. 19. Deputies responded to the ranch and investigated the theft. At this time no suspects have been identified.

Driving under the influence, negligence: A deputy contacted a motorist at 10:57 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Gilco Petroleum Park outside of Rifle for weaving and failing to use a turn signal. John Murray Etheredge, 36, of Parachute, was found to be intoxicated and was arrested and transported to the Garfield County Jail on charges of suspicion of driving under the influence and child abuse – negligence.

Violation of a restraining order: Deputies took a report of a restraining order violation at the Garfield County Jail at 10:29 a.m. on Feb. 21. After investigation, Alfred Elias Moreno, 31, of Rifle, was charged with violation of a protection order.

Driving under restraint: Deputies stopped a car for speeding at 9:50 p.m. on Feb. 22 on Interstate 70 near Rifle. Katlin Alexis Foulk, 23, of Rifle, was found to have a restrained driver’s license and was issued a summons.

Driving under the influence, open container: Deputies contacted a suspicious vehicle near the parking area of JQS road at 4:35 a.m. on Feb. 22. After investigation, Wendy J. Thibault, 41, of Parachute, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and open container. She was released on bond.

Driving with revoked license, warrant arrest: Deputies initiated a traffic stop at 7:48 p.m. on Feb. 22 in the 100 block of Stone Quarry Road in Battlement Mesa. Larkin Marvin Harris, 65, of Parachute, was issued a summons for driving with a revoked driver’s license, and Beth Elaine Brock, 55, of Parachute was booked at the Garfield County Jail on an outstanding warrant. Brock was released on bond.

Harassment, child abuse: Deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance at 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the 1500 block of Main Street in Silt. Upon investigation, Derrik Gage Smith, 23, of Silt, was arrested for harassment, possession of drug paraphernalia, domestic violence, criminal mischief and child abuse – negligence and transported to the Garfield County Jail.

Driving under the influence, open container: Deputies contacted a woman for a traffic infraction at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 on Interstate 70 in New Castle. After an investigation, Beverly Kay Larson, 51, of Centennial, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and an open alcoholic beverage container. She was released on bond.

Driving under restraint: Deputies conducted a traffic stop at 12:38 a.m. on Feb. 25 in the 2000 mile of County Road 100 in Carbondale. Deputies learned that the driver of the vehicle had a revoked driver’s license. Juan De Dios Valerio-Meraz, 34, of Carbondale, was arrested and transported to the Garfield County Jail. He was released on bond.

Driving under restraint: Deputies conducted a traffic stop at 12:24 p.m. on Feb. 25 in the 100 block of West Sixth Street in Glenwood Springs. Jose Matilde Navarro, 39, of Glenwood Springs, was subsequently taken into custody for driving under restraint. He was released on bond.

Driving under the influence: Deputies conducted a traffic stop at 4:53 a.m. on Feb. 26 in the 2000 mile of County Road 100 in Carbondale for speeding. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Aaron Franklin Brady, 31, of Carbondale, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and was transported to the Garfield County Jail. He was released on bond.

Driving under restraint, warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man at 1:11 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the 2000 mile of County Road 114 outside of Glenwood Springs during a motorist assist. Jesus Manuel Rodriguez-Ayala, 26, of Glenwood Springs, was subsequently arrested for a misdemeanor warrant and driving while license revoked and was transported to the Garfield County Jail.

Driving under restraint: A deputy contacted a man for a traffic violation at 1:44 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the 5000 mile of County Road 335 in New Castle. Jesus Manuel Moreno, 26, of New Castle, was found to be driving with a revoked license and was taken to the Garfield County Jail. He was released on bond.

Driving under the influence, criminal impersonation: A deputy contacted a vehicle at 12:26 a.m. on Feb. 27 at North Seventh Street and Main Street in New Castle for a traffic violation. Guillermo Martinez, 27, of Glenwood Springs, was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for driving without a valid license, criminal impersonation, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under restraint and suspicion of driving under the influence and was taken to the Garfield County Jail.
