Garfield Re-2 ‘dang’ proud of Pasiewicz
Roy Moore Elementary School physical education teacher Eva Pasiewicz has been selected as the L.S. Wood Charitable Trust Teacher of the Year. The prestigious award earned Pasiewicz $2,000 for herself and $2,000 for Roy Moore Elementary. The Garfield Re-2 School District and Roy Moore Elementary are proud of Pasiewicz and her dedication to the children and teachers of the district.Pasiewicz is also the current president of the West Garfield Education Association. Dang, she’s good!Foreign Language department head Maria Carrion-Kozak presented several awards at the Rifle High School academic awards assembly held on May 16. Hailey Lloyd and Whitney Giorno received awards for Spanish I, Leslee Simms for Spanish II, Jenny Schneider and Angel Boure for Spanish III, and Kate Newton-Cromwell for Spanish IV. Amy Rose received a Leadership award for being a Spanish Aide.The Computers for Kids (C4K) Foundation announces a valleywide computer recycling day, June 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dropoffs locations are at the Aspen Landfill, Basalt Town Hall, Carbondale Town Hall, and the True Value parking lot on Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs. C4K is a part of the bank’s Classroom Credits program, through which education programs in the valley receive financial support.In March and April, C4K ran its first mail campaign to raise operating funds. With the help of Board members and volunteers an appeal letter was sent to over 300 valley residents, and the new foundation received 42 responses and $8,160 in contributions. This allows the foundation to provide computers and Internet access to 17 families or recycle 350 unusable computers. The public is invited to visit the new home of Computers for Kids in an Open House on June 29, noon to 4 p.m. at 981E Cowen Drive in Carbondale. The mailing address is P.O. Box 1989, the telephone number is 963-7259, and the fax number is 963-7279. You may sign up for summer classes in computer basics at that time. Most courses will be three hours and held on Tuesday or Thursday evenings.The last day of school for Garfield Re-2 students is a half day on Thursday, May 30. Please check with individual schools as to each school’s exact dismissal time.
