Garfield Re-2 school district announces finalists in superintendent search

Garfield Re-2 School District is making strides in their search for a new superintendent.
On Thursday, Garfield Re-2 announced four names to replace Superintendent Heather Grumley, who announced in November 2024 that she’ll be retiring in June.
The four finalists for the top administration jobs are:
Dr. Drew Adams of Louisville, Colorado: Adams was previously the principal of Roaring Fork High School from 2012-2017.
Mr. Kirk Banghart of Salida: Banghart served as the superintendent of Moffat County Consolidated School District #2 from 2010-2017.
Mr. Timothy Renn of Canon City: Renn has been serving as the middle school principal and director of special services for Canon City RE-1 since 2015.
Dr. Matthew Snyder of Cheraw: Snyder has been serving as the superintendent of Cheraw School District since 2018.
Garfield Re-2 Schools used the services of McPherson & Jacobson throughout the search process to ensure the board had a full understanding of the applicants. The McPherson & Jacobson consultants were responsible for vetting, screening, and running extensive background checks on 18 applicants. After the consultants delved deep into the 18 people applying for superintendency, they brought their findings to the board, the release states.
On Wednesday, Feb. 28, the consultants presented the applicants and the background searches findings to the Board of Education. The board selected the four finalists following a lengthy discussion on Wednesday night.
The school board interviews for the four finalists are available for public viewing. They will take place at 8:50 a.m. March 7 at Coal Ridge High School. The community will also have an opportunity to meet the finalists and give final thoughts to the board during a Meet and Greet from 4:30-6:00 p.m. March 6 at Rifle High School. A town hall will immediately follow the meet and greet from 6-7 p.m.
The board is expected to choose the new superintendent by Saturday, March 8, the release states.
After the new superintendent is selected, Dr. Christy Sinner and Dr. Ken Haptonstall will host a workshop to get the board and new superintendent on the same page regarding the expectations and objectives for the coming years.
