A new release from the Glenwood Springs Fire Department reported of a gas explosion at the Daily Bread on Saturday around 5:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from the fire department.

Upon arrival, the department found the front window had been blown out by a gas explosion with active flames at the source of the gas leak, the news release stated.

Multiple adjacent buildings were evacuated while the Fire Department also secured the building’s utilities and extinguished the fire.

One person, who was inside the Daily Bread at the time of the explosion, was transported to Valley View Hospital with minor injuries, according to the release.

Despite the incident, damage to the building was minor. After ensuring all hazards were fully mitigated, residents were allowed to return to their homes. Control of the property was then handed back to the owner, the news release stated.

The response team was under the command of Incident Commander Hostetler. Source Gas, the Glenwood Springs Police Department, and Colorado River Fire Rescue also responded to the incident.

Battalion Chief Hostetler expressed gratitude for the team’s rapid and professional response, which he believes minimized damage and any additional injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Garfield County Fire Investigation Team. The department will not be releasing any more information at this time, the news release stated.
