Gas prices stay high in Glenwood
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado Since the week of July 23, Glenwood Springs has had the highest average gas prices per gallon of regular self-serve unleaded in the state. This week, when the American Automobile Association (AAA) published its weekly report, not much changed with Glenwood again posting an average price per gallon of regular unleaded at $4.18, $.04 cents higher than Vails average price. There is good news behind those pump prices, according to AAA spokeswoman Wave Dreher, as much of the nation has seen gas prices shoot up because of oil refineries shutting down in the wakes of hurricanes Gustav and Ike earlier this month, we shouldn’t expect a rise in our area.Weve definitely seen an increase in some parts of the county because of the hurricanes, Dreher said. Colorado has been one of the areas most insulated from that because most of our oil supplies are coming from the north and not from the south.Dreher said that the states most affected by the hurricanes and closed refineries are south of the northern border of Oklahoma and along the Gulf Coast. Those states are heavily dependent on the Colonial Pipeline that was affected by the recent storms. They should be getting some relief soon, Dreher said. Colorado wasnt impacted as much as those southern states.Colorados average price per gallon at $3.75 for regular unleaded is below the national average of $3.86, for the first time since July 16. But that is only due to the national average rising $0.21 cents in the past week. And that means little to commuters on the western slope and in the southern parts of the state who are still paying anywhere from $3.75 per gallon in Durango, $3.80 in Grand Junction, and $4.14 per gallon in Vail.Glenwood Springs average price per gallon has been the highest in the state for nine weeks when it first topped out at $4.47 per gallon of regular unleaded on July 23. Since then Glenwood residents have seen a average low price of $4.13 per gallon recorded on September 9. And for the first time all summer, at least one gas station in Glenwood, Bradleys Sinclair station on Grand Avenue, was selling a gallon of gas for below the $4 dollar mark.If and for how long these low prices will stay is unknown, the only certainty in gas prices is the uncertainty in gas prices.Contact John Gardner: firstname.lastname@example.orgPost Independent, Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO
