George E. Mitchell

George E. Mitchell passed away March 30, 2007.George was born May 13, 1920, in Afton, Iowa, to Samuel and Eliza Parratt Mitchell.George served as a lieutenant in World War II.He was a past mayor of Rifle and Leadville, an International Gideon, a Mason, and a past member of the Rifle Southern Baptist Church. He served on many civic boards and owned and operated Mitchell Signs in Rifle.He is survived by his wife, Lucille Mitchell; son Darell (Jana Smith) Mitchell of Doerun, Ga.; daughter Carole (Jim) Losie of Apollo Beach, Fla.; daughter-in-law Suetta Mitchell of Denver; brother-in-law Jake Alligood of Citrus Springs, Fla.; grandchildren Warren Mitchell, Wayne Mitchell, Kelly Hodges, Natilie Garlic, Sonia Garlic, Shaun Fields, Brandon Fields, Wendie Cobb and Shawn Losie; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Iona; and son Jan.A memorial service took place April 7 at North Oak Baptist Church in Citrus Springs, Fla.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the International Gideons, Alpine Camp, New Castle, CO 81647.
