Girls soccer: Demons done after loss to Air Academy

Glenwood Springs girls soccer coach Steve White isn’t letting Friday’s 8-0 loss to Air Academy discount what was a highly successful season for his Demons.

“It was a wonderful season,” he said. “It’s a great group of players, players that I admire. They just had an amazing attitude and effort. They made it fun. They enjoyed each other and they enjoyed the game.”

Brooke Braden and Caren Nelson each scored two goals and Brooke Watson, Hailey Peterman, Taylor Braden and Haley Williamson added a goal apiece as Air Academy advanced to Class 4A’s round of eight with Friday’s playoff win.

“We never could get our offense on track,” White said. “We were playing a lot of long passes and they were intercepting those passes. They stepped to the ball quick and interrupted our usual passing.”

White’s Demons finished the season with a 13-2-2 record, winning their third straight 4A Western Slope League title in the process.

Glenwood will graduate eight seniors from this year’s team – Dani Turley, Sarah Davis, Corey Gera, Josie Pearson, Michaela Mansfield, Jocelyn Brownson, Savanna Pearson and Holly Brown.

Air Academy (14-3) will face Broomfield in the next round.
