GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Two forums will be held this week to address the down economy’s effects on area nonprofits.

The Aspen Community Foundation (ACF) met with area nonprofits in December to discuss the effects of the economy on their organizations. The groups decided to hold discussions quarterly, said the ACF’s Sonja Linman.

The forums are meant to address the economic conditions in the Roaring Fork Valley and how nonprofits are doing, as well as generate suggestions to deal with the tough times.

The ACF and area nonprofits are also looking at trends in funding and trends in who is seeking out help from nonprofits. Linman said the forums are aimed at answering the question, “What can we do to support our nonprofits at this critical time?”

“Early signs indicate that the current economic climate is having a transformative effect on Colorado’s nonprofit community,” the ACF said in a statement. “Many human service organizations, for example, are experiencing steep increases in demand for services while simultaneously seeing their funding streams decline. On the contrary, some arts and culture organizations are struggling to maintain programs as consumers change their spending priorities.”
