Glenwood needs healing through mutual respect

Marie Ann George

Dear Editor,

I’ve lived in Glenwood Springs for eight months, and I’ve met many people from different walks of life. Some who have lived in hardship and pain, but are now back on their feet, some that may not have had as much hardship, some that are new to this country, and some that are now experiencing hardship and pain.

Everyone, though, has felt pain and been fearful of the unknown in their lives.

I am a woman who has known and experienced many walks of life; from wealth to poverty, safety to insecurity, and acceptance to non-acceptance.

I see many good things in the Glenwood Springs community: its charity, love, kindness, thoughtfulness, and togetherness in times of need.

I also see a community that needs healing through listening and respecting each other’s thoughts, feelings, and fears to better get through the difficult times.

Compromising, through listening to your opponent and vice versa, means you feel more respected and less threatened when working on resolutions.

In the eight months I’ve lived in Glenwood Springs, I’ve found healing from a past filled with trauma. I’ve also learned a great deal about love, patience, and acceptance.

When fear and anger fill your life, you can’t see the love in yourself or others, and truth gets lost in the confusion.

Sincerely,

Marie Ann George
